Disaster recovery for your Proxmox servers

Rescue Missions start your Proxmox servers from the backups you already keep with us, IP addresses and all, so your business keeps running while you fix your site.

The beta is free. You request access in the dashboard with your remote-backups.com account.

Servers start in the right order

A mission lists your servers, the backup each one starts from, and the order they come up. The database and the cache start first. The app starts when both answer on their ports. The web server comes last and faces the internet.

Measured RTO and RPO for your continuity plan

Most disaster recovery plans contain a recovery time that somebody estimated once and nobody has checked since. Rescue Missions replace that guess with numbers from real restores of your own backups.

RPO

Recovery point objective

How much data you can afford to lose, which comes down to how often you back up. The report lists the backup every server was restored from, so you can see exactly how old your data would be in a real failover.

RTO

Recovery time objective

How long your business can afford to be offline. Every restore test records how long each server took to restore and when the whole mission was up and running, so the RTO in your plan comes from an actual run.

Test it, then trust it

A mission is your disaster recovery plan written down, and a restore test is the drill that shows whether it actually works.

Restore test (DR test)

Run the plan whenever you want, without touching production.

  • Comes up in a sealed-off network with no internet and no path to production
  • Checks that every server starts and answers on its ports
  • Deleted when the test window ends
  • A report with the measured recovery time and the backup each server came from, ready to hand to your auditor

Failover

The same plan for the day your site really goes down.

  • Starts from your newest backup, or the newest one before a time you choose
  • Rebuilds your networks, so servers keep their internal addresses
  • Public addresses with only the ports you open
  • Access over WireGuard or a browser console per server
  • Runs until you end it

Nothing runs inside your servers

Rescue Missions only ever touch your backups. Your production servers never see an agent, a login or a connection from us.

Your backups are the source
Rescue Missions work from the Proxmox Backup Server backups you already send us. You install no agent.
Read-only access per run
Each run gets its own read-only token on exactly your datastores. We delete it when the run ends.
Your key, only for the run
For encrypted backups you give your key when you start a run. We use it for that run and never store it.
Isolated networks
Every run gets its own networks, with no path to other customers or to our hosts.

Questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. Rescue Missions work from the Proxmox Backup Server backups you already send us. Nothing runs inside your servers.

Which servers can I recover?

Proxmox VMs and containers that you back up to remote-backups.com.

What RTO can I expect?

That depends mostly on how much data your servers hold and how many of them the mission starts, so we can't give you a fixed figure. A restore test measures it for you: the report shows the recovery time for each server and for the mission as a whole.

What is my RPO?

Your backup schedule decides it. A failover starts from your newest backup, or from the newest one before a point in time you pick. With hourly backups you would lose roughly the last hour of changes, assuming the last backup job succeeded.

Do encrypted backups work?

Yes. You give your encryption key when you start a run. We use it only for that run and never store it.

Where do recovered servers run?

On our recovery platform in the AtlasEdge HAM002 datacenter near Hamburg, Germany.

What does it cost?

The beta is free. Pricing for the general release is not final.

Plan your failover before you need it

Request access in the dashboard and we'll enable Rescue Missions for your account. You build your first mission from the backups you already have, and your first restore test tells you what your RTO really is.
