Introduction

remote-backups.com offers S3-compatible object storage in buckets. A bucket is an HTTP interface for files: you upload, download and manage them with the tools you already know, for example the aws-cli, rclone or restic.

Buckets fit everything that speaks S3 rather than Proxmox Backup Server: file backups with restic or rclone, application data, database dumps, or the storage of other backup software. For backups of Proxmox VMs and containers, a datastore is the better match.

How a tool reaches your bucket

The basics

Every bucket lives in one of our locations, and its endpoint carries the location code, for example https://fra1.my-s3.com for Frankfurt. The same code is the region that S3 tools ask for. Each bucket has its own access key, which works only for that bucket. Traffic is always included in the price; you only choose a bandwidth limit.

The following guides take you from your first bucket to daily use:

  1. Create a bucket
  2. Connect your tools
  3. Size and billing
  4. Manage a bucket

Before you rely on a bucket for something important, read the limits: versioning and object locking, for example, do not exist yet.
