Introduction

A datastore is a Proxmox Backup Server datastore that we run for you, offsite in our datacenters. Your Proxmox VE hosts and your own Proxmox Backup Server back up to it like to any other PBS storage, with deduplication, incremental backups and client-side encryption. The same datastore also accepts SSH-based tools such as rsync, Borg and SFTP.

What connects to a datastore

The basics

Every datastore lives on a storage host in one of our locations. Click Connect on the datastore page to see what your systems need: the host with port 8007, the user, the password, the datastore ID and the certificate fingerprint. The same dialog suggests a closer edge location when one has lower latency, and it lists the recommended backup times, when the storage host is least busy.

The following guides take you from your first datastore to a well-protected setup:

  1. Create a datastore
  2. Connect Proxmox VE, Proxmox Backup Server, a Linux host, or tools over SFTP, rsync and Borg
  3. Let the size follow your data with autoscaling
  4. Keep the datastore healthy with the maintenance tasks
  5. Protect your backups with immutable backups and geo replication
